To Wait ore not to wait.

So today i found out my money wasn't send. and off coarse i'm furious about.
Now i have to wait for 2 months totally to have enough to buy a crane and engine stand.

The engine is so far torn apart i wont bolt it all back together, But continue doing so.
except for cooling system. i only have to do the exhaust and power steering stuff.

Then i can start cleaning this stuff. In the mean time i need to add some shelfs to my work space where i can putt my parts on so they do not grow feet and start wandering of.

I found a good store where i can buy a good cheap engine crane and engine stand. tools-n-more
and a cheap tools cart what i want to buy so i can store all my tools in one place and take it with me to my garage. datona

Both are a 100 miles away so a short drive for this guy.

Untill Next time. Which i think will take a while .

It's Sunday today, so today i went doing something. except for eating roosted pumpkin seeds. Which my lovely wife baked.

As for starters i went and took out the intake manifold and all the problems to get it out.

Only to find a lot of carbon in the cylinder head.
Well it has bin running for 250.000 kilometers so i think this might aswell be normal .

Now for sure i found some other problems aswell.
I regards to get the intake out i took one of the fans out so i could access some bolts a little better.
Then i came across these.

above the transmission cooler line has a dent in it , i know it's hard to see. Because of all the dirt and oil. but it just above the glare on the screwdriver. when i squeeze there is stuff coming out.

It also showed me that the radiator needs replacement.

So i went investigating further and found a cast number. on the engine block.

To me it says
2 ø 9 ø 95
So it a 95 engine block.

I did not find the engine number anywhere yet. and neither i am sure if Chrysler can send me details of the cars numbers to match then all up.

For me well worth saving unless it wrecked all the way. In what i am really curious to. because i didn't like what i was seeing through the spark plug holes. I couldn't really get a pictures of that but maybe i'm mistaken . I wished i bought the Endoscope for €80,- at the Lidl a few months back.

I took the ecu out of it and as much of the wire harness, so when i get the engine hoist and stand it wont be a day of work and trying to figure everything out.

Instead it will take a few hours ore so to get the engine out.

For the question "Why didn't you take out the radiator ?"

Well it's need to be drained first .
Then its open to the air and because the engine block is cast iron it will rust.
Now i don't know exactly when i have a engine stand and hoist.
But i'm sure i don't want the cooling ports to rust out on me in a few months time.

So this is it for today
I am making a list on what needs to be replaced when i come across it.

My Chilton book helps me locating connectors and bolts when something is still attached to something.

I also disconnected the Air conditioning hosing, as i expected they were leaking.

So i unscrewed one and heard nothing and then unscrewed the second and heard a psssssssssssssssss. for a few seconds. so i guess i was right on the money. There wasn't much in it anymore. As this worked i unscrewed the one at the firewall aswell.

Well thats it for today, I could have done much more. But i do not intend to do much untill i have a hoist and a stand.

Slowly we go.

So, as you see things go slowly. Today i have an hour of time so i started pulling plugs and labeled them as i went. unscrewed a few bolts, finding things in the way and go from there.

Time is on my side though. It doesn't have to be finished tomorrow.

Ah well. hope i get the funds for a hoist and engine stand soon. Then we'd really get going in a weekend.

Till then,

Information is the key

Information is the key.

Well as i am planning on doing a basic rebuild on my engine its good to have tools and the book ready.
But before that you should read up before hand.
Now i went searching on google for information and cam accros a few blogs and magazines.

Now this magazine made me confident that it's not really hard to do a rebuild, although some thing you better  let the machine shop do.

http://www.mustangandfords.com/techarticles/engine/mdmp_0809_budget_ford_small_block_engine_rebuild/

Now for the second is someone from a company i guess but the information is still good.
http://www.goodson.com/blog/ i am now reading up on.

Then there is an other magazine and an other magazine.
http://www.enginebuildermag.com/ which is going in detail in parts of the engine. and i really like details of parts and why they are made that way. like why timing belt engines dont have roller lifter, as they dont give resistance to the belt and it can loop ore wrap, skip a tooth and cause many problems.

Well it's there to find out.

There is also someone how did it already http://www.techknowman.com/dodge%20neon/Dodge%20Neon_Engine.htm

And then the dvd.

How to Rebuild a Dodge Neon Plymouth Mitsubishi 2.0 2.4 420A Engine. Video DVD

And is to find on ebay.

Now most basic information is on the internet. and for a basic rebuild you just need to check clearances and gaps and putt in all the gaskets and new bearings for as they are now about 15 years old and is time to replace them.

I find www.rockauto.com a good place to check for parts, although they ship from several warehouses.
it is good to check what is available for your engine.

Have a good one.

Oh i think you want to see the neon off coarse.

The Red and Blue. (purple i keep saying)
The red one is myn and the blue one is belongs to my lovely wife.

The red has the problems and the blue is the winter beater. :P no offence girls. They are both
2.0L Sohc red is 1995 blue is 1997.

Any way the tails where euro and converted to USA i traded them with now a friend Gary in the USA

 So his was like this

And went to this. looks good doesn't it.

One of the neighbors ordered pizza... . . . .

So i thought i take a few of those boxes so i can stick the bolts and valves in there and keep everything arranged.

And behind the brick wall there where that old reel to reel player is. I want to make my work bench. there is light and its hidden. its small but i hope it'll work out.

Now first the task to clean up this mess .
Will get back to that later.

For now i need Coffee !

The Start Of It All

Oh Jolly,

Making a blog to record my progress of my neon.
Now for so far i have done a lot of work on the Neon but my engine sort of failed last winter.
It was knocking heavily and sounded like a diesel engine in -20°C

So i putt it aside and let it sit for money to wait.

Now money is still an issue though, I am starting the progress of tearing it down. and try to preserve as much as i can from this engine.

But Why ?! Isn't It Way Cheaper To Just Putt In A Junkyard Engine.

Well yeah it'll cost me €400,- and a few tools. but i'm not trying to safe up on money. but actually going to rebuild this engine. as it probably is just a hydraulic lifter anyway.
If you take it apart, it doesn't hurt to check up on everything else while your going in this process.

It isn't a hard thing to do it's just a precision progress .

Well hope you'll enjoy this blog. I don't have much time and also winter is on its way.
As far for now. i have the oil pan of , was to check whether it were rod bearings ore not.

If you want to know ? it's well varnished after 245.000 Km
